Spanish tax return for expats and non-residents
Whether you live in Spain or only own property here, there are forms to file. We tell you which ones and file them for you.
If you are tax resident in Spain
You file an annual income tax return, usually from April to the end of June, including your income from anywhere in the world. Tax already paid in another country can usually be offset under the double tax treaty.
Assets abroad: Modelo 720 and 721
If you are resident and hold more than €50,000 abroad in bank accounts, investments or property, you report them by 31 March (Modelo 720). Crypto held abroad has its own form (Modelo 721). If you are under the Beckham Law, you do not file them.
If you live abroad but own property in Spain
Non-residents file Modelo 210: on rental income, and on a deemed income if the property is not rented. If you sell, the buyer keeps 3% of the price and pays it to the tax office, and it counts towards your tax.
