Tax advice for expats in Barcelona
Moving to Spain changes how you pay tax. We tell you whether you are tax resident, what Spain taxes and which regime suits you.
The Beckham Law
If you move to Spain for work, you may be able to pay tax as a non-resident for six years: a flat 24% on employment income up to €600,000, and 47% above that.
Who can apply
- You have not been tax resident in Spain in the previous five years.
- You move for a job with a Spanish employer, a director role, or certain entrepreneurial and highly qualified work.
- Your spouse and children under 25 may also qualify if they move with you.
Deadline: you have six months from your Spanish Social Security registration to apply (form 149). If you miss it, you lose the regime.
It is not always the best choice. Under the regime most personal allowances do not apply, and some situations pay less under the normal rules. We compare both before you apply.
What we do
- Check whether you qualify
- File the application
- Prepare your annual return under the regime (form 151)
- Plan what happens when the six years end
Other international tax questions
- Tax residency and moving in or out of Spain
- Income and pensions from other countries
- Investments, bank accounts and property abroad
- Modelo 720 (assets abroad) and 721 (crypto abroad)
